A Honeymoon to Remember: Perfecting Pinot Noir and Salmon Pairing in New Zealand
We spent our honeymoon in New Zealand, and of course, visited several wineries during the amazing time we spent there. In fact, you could say we organized our entire trip around wine.
We spent several days exploring the Marlborough region, which is famous for its incredibly distinctive and unmistakable Sauvignon Blanc. We love it too — with a superb six-bottle "Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc" wine package you can feel like you’re in New Zealand yourself.
At one of the beautiful seaside wineries, during a tasting, the sommelier suggested that with grilled salmon, we should try a lighter local Pinot Noir. It was so convincing that we wanted to try the pairing that very same day.
That evening at the campsite, we threw some fresh local salmon on the grill. It truly was a perfect pairing: the slightly chilled, medium-bodied Pinot Noir with a lower alcohol content (12.5%), fruity and spicy, from a vineyard near the ocean in the Awatere Valley.
Give it a try and taste the very same wine we enjoyed that day.
