Fekete Pince’s Juhfark Liget Vineyard – A True Expression of Somló’s Terroir

Nestled in the heart of Somló, Fekete Pince’s Juhfark Liget Vineyard is a place where tradition and passion meet the region’s unique volcanic terroir. The Juhfark grape, known for its small, concentrated berries, thrives in the mineral-rich soils, producing wines with vibrant acidity, complex flavors, and a signature minerality.

Somló’s volcanic soils and temperate climate create wines that are fresh, balanced, and full of depth. At Fekete Pince, the winemaking philosophy is rooted in tradition, with hand-harvesting, gentle pressing, and fermentation in large oak barrels to preserve the integrity of the grapes and showcase the true character of the land. After that, maturation continues in 500-liter barrels that are 4–5 years old.

The result is a wine that reflects the power of Somló’s terroir—bold yet refined, with flavors of stone fruit, citrus, and subtle smokiness. Fekete Pince’s fkt Juhfark from the Juhfark Liget vineyard is a true representation of Hungarian craftsmanship, offering a tasting experience that celebrates both the history and the future of Somló wines.

Now you have the opportunity to virtually adopt a piece of this exceptional vineyard, connecting with its rich history and the vibrant energy of Gábor and Zsófi, who are shaping its exciting future.

Nestled on the southern slopes of Hungary's solitary volcanic Somló Hill, Fekete Winery is renowned for producing premium-quality white wines that embody the region's rich viticultural heritage. Founded in the early 1970s by the esteemed Béla Fekete, affectionately known as the "Grand Old Man of Somló," the winery has cultivated a reputation for excellence over decades. The estate spans approximately 4.3 hectares, flourishing on mineral-rich basalt soils that impart a distinctive character to its wines. Fekete Winery remains steadfast in its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques, including meticulous hand harvesting, gentle pressing, and spontaneous fermentation in Hungarian oak casks. This dedication ensures that each bottle authentically reflects the unique terroir of Somló.

Following Béla Fekete's retirement in 2014, the winery entered a new era under the stewardship of Gábor Riesz and his team. They have embraced the legacy of their predecessor, enhancing the winery's offerings with innovative practices while preserving its esteemed traditions. Their portfolio showcases a range of indigenous Hungarian grape varieties, including Furmint, Juhfark, Olaszrizling, and Hárslevelű, each wine capturing the essence of Somló's volcanic terroir.

In addition to their classic selections, Fekete Winery has introduced the "fkt" series, a line of experimental wines that explore new dimensions of the region's varietals. This initiative reflects the winery's philosophy of honoring tradition while embracing innovation, offering wine enthusiasts a diverse and enriching tasting experience.
