The Szent György-hegyi Olaszrizling 2024 from Szászi Birtok captures the essence of Balaton’s volcanic terroir in a glass. Shimmering pale straw with a hint of green, it immediately enchants with aromas of ripe apricot, acacia honey, and a delicate touch of coconut. On the palate, the wine reveals both richness and finesse: a silky, creamy body carries layers of fruit and floral notes, balanced by lively acidity and a gentle saline streak that lingers long after each sip.

This vintage shows the variety at its most elegant — mature yet approachable, structured yet graceful. It is a wine that speaks of its volcanic birthplace with quiet authority, a bottle that connects land, grape, and tradition in a seamless, harmonious whole.

Grapes for this wine were hand-picked from three selected parcels on the slopes of Szent György Hill, where basalt-rich volcanic soils impart depth and minerality.

After harvest, the fruit underwent spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, guided only by native yeasts. The young wine was then aged for three months in oak barrels, gaining its creamy texture and subtle spice while preserving freshness.

Grilled sea bream with herb-salt crust and lemon – a natural match for the wine’s saline finish.

Asparagus risotto with goat cheese – creamy textures meet fresh acidity.

Roasted butternut squash with sage and parmesan – sweetness and earthiness echo its apricot-honey tones.

Smoked trout tartine with dill crème fraîche – balancing creaminess with the wine’s mineral lift.

Pear and gorgonzola salad with candied walnuts – a playful pairing that enhances its layered depth.
