Why It’s So Famous

Gere Attila Kopar gained its reputation as the defining premium Hungarian red wine, setting the benchmark for Villány Cabernet Franc blends. Its name comes from the Kopár vineyard, one of the most celebrated slopes in the Villány wine district, known for its limestone and loess soils that give the wine minerality and depth. The first vintage, released in 1997, was a revelation: a perfectly balanced Bordeaux-inspired blend that rivaled classic French wines while remaining unmistakably Hungarian. Since then, Kopar red wine has become a collectible and a symbol of excellence, featured on fine-dining wine lists worldwide and revered by critics and collectors for its consistency and elegance.

A carefully crafted blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the best Villány vineyards, including Kopár, Csillagvölgy, and Konkoly. Each variety is vinified separately to highlight its character — Cabernet Franc for structure, Merlot for softness, and Cabernet Sauvignon for depth.

The wines are matured for 16 months in French oak barrels (a mix of new and used), then blended with precision and aged further in bottle before release. The result is a powerful yet refined oak-aged Hungarian red wine with long ageing potential and an unmistakably Villány identity.
